Gurjaani Archs

Kakheti, Georgia 2024 Complete

This unique entrance project for the historic city of Gurjaani—historically known as a “settlement of Georgians” and the proud heart of Georgia’s richest winemaking region – is a striking archway designed to celebrate the area’s deep cultural roots. Inspired by the city’s archaeological heritage of ancient clay pottery, its famous vineyards, and its mid-20th century history as a key architectural railway hub, the monument features a dramatic, stepped series of tall steel arches that gracefully taper down toward the landscape. These arches are designed to be covered in growing green grapevines, completely transforming their look throughout the seasons, from lush summer greenery to snow-dusted winter silhouettes. At night, the main arch lights up with welcoming glowing text, creating a bold and memorable landmark inspied by Gurjaani’s ancient winemaking history.
